It seems like it’s all about the engine manufacturer. They don’t drive a Ram they drive a Cummins.

I don’t just drive a Honda, I drive an i-CTDi.

I think its because most domestic manufacturers don’t seem to make their own diesels, unlike foreign brands. So new vehicles have the engine manufacturer listed right along with the make. After that, people just tend to get territorial about any branding they own.

I think those guys just like to make tasteless sexual innuendos.

Well but for guys say powerstroke, which is a ford brand, not “international” or Navistar”, even though the new scorpion is internal. Same with GM, its a duramax, not isuzu...although the new duramax is also internal. Cummins is the only non-manufacture engine in a diesel HD now.

Because Cummins is one of the biggest names in diesel.

Power Stroke is much longer.
![]() 05/21/2015 at 13:52 |

But Duramax and Powerstroke are in house engines.

What you did there, I absolutely see it.

Weird that it only works for diesels to. I think people would look at me funny if I walked around calling my truck Vortec instead of Yukon.

The Ford guys drive a PowerStroke not a Ford and so on. You can sweatshirts with Cummins. PowerStroke or Duramax at any store in Maine ... by law!

Err ... I’m not sure which is worse.

Unintentional double entendre!
Wait ... I mean I meant that :-\

Gonna up in my Duratec and drive home.

Sort of. The Duramax is manufactured by Izuzu. The first gen engines were mostly Izuzu owned. GM slowly bought more and more of the rights to the engine but I believe its still manufactured by Izuzu. And the 7.3L and 6.0L power strokes were made by Navistar. I believe the 6.4L was outsourced as well, but it may have been made in house by Ford. But i know that the 6.7L is definitely a Ford designed and manufactured engine.

That was informative. Thank you!

I think the Duramax still has some licensing by Izuzu....But its mostly a GM Engine. I could be wrong because i know that when the Duramax first came out it was a joint effort but slowly over the years GM has owned more and more of it from Izuzu...

Its funny how we don’t give enough credit for the durability of the original D-max to Izusu...I mean, what would they know about diesel? right?

My Ford has a diesel. I still see it as a Ford, despite the engine being a Peugeot design. It’s a company car though, a car I didn’t pick myself. Had I had a choice I’d have picked a real Peugeot.

I think the DMax is assembled in Ohio now. And the 6.4L was Navistar’s hasty fix to the 6.0L, but the 6.7L was all Ford as you said.

Yea they seem pretty dumb when it comes to diesels....not like they’re one of the largest companies producing, marketing, and selling diesel engines to the commercial vehicle diesel engine market...

Yea the Dmax i think has always been produced in Ohio (according to Wikipedia...) but I know its technology was originally mostly owned by Izuzu and some by GM, but that percentage changes over the years.

Haha sounds so lame. Even saying “let’s take the TDI” sounds so stupid to me, I just say Jetta.

Let’s take my M60B30.
Let’s take my BMW.

Apparently (per wikipedia), Duramax is a joint venture between GM and Isuzu and Powerstrokes were made by Navistar until 2010.

Pretty much.

Fair point. I guess it is really limited to American truck diesel guys.
